It wasn’t until 2013 that Nintendo fans in Australia, and many other parts of the world, first played Earthbound (Mother 2 in Japan), the classic SNES RPG with a major cult following. 19 years after its original release, the game is still incredible – a bittersweet journey about growing up, with beautiful art and wonderful mechanics. Earthbound remains Nintendo’s most elusive series outside of Japan – fans have begged for a port of the Game Boy Advance game Mother 3 for years – which is a shame, because the whole series is beloved by those who have played them. It’s represented by Ness and Lucas in Smash Bros.
