Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy

When Square’s Hironobu Sakaguchi named 1987’s Final Fantasy, he genuinely thought that it would be the final JRPG his studio created. Now, after 15 mainline entries and many spin-offs, Final Fantasy is the biggest JRPG franchise on the planet – but every game still feels like both a beginning and an end, thanks to the series’ constant reinvention of itself, from turn-based to action-focused to MMO and everything in-between. But a few things connect every entry – huge bosses, awesome summon attacks, incredible storytelling, and a bunch of dudes with spiky anime hair. As long as there are video games, there will be Final Fantasy.
