A stealth action series about nanomachines, patriotism, paranoia, getting old, staying young forever, fending off killer bees, dying for your country, killing for that same country, eating wildlife, and the sins of the father echoing through history. This is all to say that Metal Gear Solid is a heady, enormous, challenging series – one that’s as rewarding and exciting as it is complicated. Hideo Kojima’s masterful series has shifted and changed over several entries, and because to a tragic fallout with publisher Konami, it may never be properly “finished” – but the series produced some of the best, smartest stealth games of all time.
