“What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets!” In the original 1986 Castlevania, Simon Belmont set out to conquer Lord Dracula’s castle, defeating the vampire lord and ridding the world of evil. Now, over 30 years and many games later, the lore of Castlevania is as twisted, complicated, and brilliant as one of the series’ incredible castles. Castlevania reached its apex with 1997’s incredible Symphony of the Night, but the series is so consistently good – and iconic – that there’s an entire genre named, in part, after it (the Metroidvania). Just make sure that you save often and pay close attention to the map.
