Centipede
This 1980 arcade classic from Atari was one of the most successful games of the time - and it's still a wildly satisfying shooter today. The player controls a gun that moves horizontally along the bottom of the screen, firing at centipedes, spiders, scorpions, and other enemies that descend from the top of the screen. The centipede starts at the top of the screen and moves downward, changing direction when it hits a mushroom or the edge of the screen. The player must shoot the centipede and its segments, as well as avoid being hit by the other enemies. The game is won by destroying the entire centipede, and lost if the player's gun is hit or the centipede reaches the bottom of the screen.
